Blackwing Returns to Brooklyn
Blackwing Comes Back to Brooklyn with the Loft at Rough Trade
When the Eberhard Faber Pencil Company first introduced the Blackwing 602 pencil in 1934, the pencils were made at their factory in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. In the years that followed, the pencil would be made in a variety of locations, including Pennsylvania, Tennessee and Mexico, but its roots were always in Brooklyn.
When we revived the Blackwing pencil in 2010, we decided to make it in Japan because we knew that was where we would be able to produce the best possible pencil. But we never forgot the brand’s Brooklyn heritage. So, when we were approached by the team at Rough Trade about opening up shop in their Brooklyn record store, less than a mile from the original Eberhard Faber pencil factory, we jumped at the chance to bring Blackwing back to Brooklyn.
It’s a space where you can test out Blackwing products, read about the history of the Blackwing brand, shop our entire collection, see how a pencil (and record) is made, and view one of a kind installations throughout the year. We’ll also be using this space to host events and release some in-store exclusive items in the months to come.
The Blackwing Loft officially opened on Record Store Day on 04/13/2019. This isn’t a pop-up, this is an experience that’s here to stay. And we can’t wait to share it with you.
